“City Nature Challenge” & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, the Friends of Orkney Park enthusiastically took part in the inaugural "City Nature Challenge." This exciting event, powered by the iNaturalist app, encouraged both children and adults to venture into the park and city, exploring and documenting any wild plants, animals, or signs of life they encountered. It was a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage with nature and contribute valuable data to this collaborative citizen science initiative.

Together with our neighbors and partners, Friends of Orkney Park celebrated the dedication of our newly preserved community-managed open space in Northern Liberties with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. What began as the vision of two individuals has culminated in The Friends of Orkney Park, the Neighborhood Gardens Trust (NGT), the Penn Treaty Special Services District, the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, and numerous residents joining in the celebration of the permanent protection of this 0.15-acre parcel along the narrow, historic, cobblestoned Orkney Street.
